Arranged Marriages:
a marriage arranged by someone else besides the couple being married.
Babylon:
an ancient city in the area of Babylonia. It was the most important city of its time.
Babylonia:
the area which is now the present day Middle East.
Culture:
the characteristic features of everyday existence (way of life eg. the Babylonians) shared by people in a place or time.
Cuneiform:
written language of the Babylonians.
Fertile Crescent:
area in between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers where land is ideal for growing crops.
Hanging Gardens:
built on a ziggurat to create the illusion of a mountain in the city of Babylon.
Irrigation:
the watering of land by man-made ways to make crops grow.
Scribe:
an educated person who writes down important stories, events, issues, and information.
Stocky:
sturdy and thick in build.
Tigris & Euphrates Rivers:
rivers in the present day Middle East that formed the Fertile Crescent.
Tunic:
a simple slip-on garment, usually knee length or longer. Tunics were worn by men and women in Babylonia.
Ziggurat:
a temple tower built by the ancient Babylonians, shaped like a pyramid.
